Although this is a massage
session, the intention for this massage is much more
then just relaxing the muscles. It is a balancing
treatment for the entire system. The amount of oil is
increased due to the detoxifying qualities it has on the
fatty tissue. It incorporates exfoliation to rid the
body of toxins and stimulates lymphatic drainage. This
balancing and rejuvenating treatment utilizes techniques
that balance all three doshas of Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
The techniques used are as follows:
Dry glove exfoliation – using raw silk gloves, the body
is vigorously rubbed to increase lymphatic circulation
and removal of dead skin cells. This is a great
technique for those that are primarily Kapha in nature.
It may help relieve sluggish metabolism and toxic
accumulation.
Oiling – Warm oil is generously applied all over the
body. Oil is used to pull out toxins that have been
deposited in the fatty tissue. In this way, oil not only
reduces skin friction but also has a greater purpose in
detoxifying the system. The strokes will be fast to
create some friction, increasing heat, circulation and
oil absorption. The oil used is treated with herbs that
sooth and balance. |
Sweet Almond Oil:
Rejuvenator
Brahmi: Revitalizes
Shatavari: Rejuvenator
Ashwagandha: Rejuvenates, good for muscles
Rose: Soothes inflammation
Basil: Soothes inflammation
Sage: Reduces excess oiliness
Cinnamon: Relieves muscle tension
Deeper strokes – Slow, deep massage strokes are used to
push the oils into the deeper layers of tissue. It also
helps relax those that have a pitta or kapha body type
who tend to have more muscle mass.
Energetic balancing - using essential oils and a light
circular touch, marma points are stimulated to open and
balance the energy flow. Marma points, similar to
acupuncture points are energetic junctions along the
channels of the body. When blockages or excess occur at
a point, dysfunction can occur along that path, causing
pain or illness.
Balancing the energy of the body with gentle hand
placements along the major marma points or charkas
concludes this session. |
