Water (Continued from
Page 1)
When we are dehydrated our body rations the water to
those organs that need it most. The brain gets the most
water as it is the most important organ and the skin
gets the least. So dandruff and dry skin may directly
result of insufficient water intake. In addition, asthma
and hyperventilation are also linked to chronic
dehydration. When the body is consistently dehydrated
air passages narrow to prevent water loss from being
evaporated through the air we breathe out.
In our body, water plays important roles in digestion,
thermoregulation, circulation and toxin elimination.
Water essentially revitalizes every cell in the body
providing lubrication and cushioning. The following
stats were taken from an article written by Bob McCauley
on www.watershed.net.
It is estimated that 73% of Americans are chronically
dehydrated. 37% of Americans have a weak thirst response
that it is often mistaken for hunger. Your metabolism
will slow down as much as 3% during mild dehydration.
Drinking 8-10 glasses a day could significantly decrease
back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. Drinking
at least 5 glasses a day can reduce cancer (breast,
colon and bladder) risk 45% - 79%.
It is recommended that a person should drink half of
their body weight in ounces e.g. 150 lbs person should
drink 75 oz (or 2.2 liters) of water a day. However, if
one is overweight, sick, |
pregnant or nursing or
participates in high intensity exercise, more water is
required.
The importance of drinking water cannot be refuted
however we as a population also have to consider the
health of our drinking water. It is estimated that 1
billion people worldwide do not have access to safe
drinking water. With our natural resources becoming
increasing exploited and contaminated we are left with
rivers and estuaries covered with algae and slime, a
decrease in marine life and major ecological change in
our environment.
Our drinking water has around 200 commercial chemicals,
bacteria and viruses and inorganic material that is
being consumed daily. I am not going to go into the
details but be careful what you drink. Bottled water has
become increasingly popular but look what affects it has
on our environment. The plastic bottle takes about 1000
years to degrade, so recycle whenever possible. In the
United States alone, the plastic required to supply the
annual demand consumes over 1.5 million barrels of oil!
Not to mention the green house gases and fossil fuel
costs that is also required for processing. But again I
am not going to go into the details but have provided
links for you to continue your research.
We need to consume our daily requirements of safe
drinking water to keep our body and mind healthy and
balanced but not ignoring the health of the earth and
its water.

Essentials
Thieves’ essential oil blend
This
oil blend is a very powerful oil to use for its
antiseptic properties. The blend consists of clove,
lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus and rosemary cineol.
This oil was created based on a historical account of
four thieves in France who used cloves, rosemary and
other oils to protect themselves from the black plague
while they robbed the dead and dying. They offered up
the recipe for the blend in exchange for a lighter
sentence when they were caught.
This blend is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal,
anti-parasitic and a powerful immune stimulant. This
blend has been shown to dramatically reduce the growth
of mold. I use it in an aromatherapy diffuser to clear
the air, diluted in a spray bottle to use as a sanitizer
for hands and feet as well as on furniture and fixtures.
I also have the foam soap in the office bathroom.
Because this blend is very strong, dilution is highly
recommended. You can apply one drop to the bottom of
your feet as the skin is thicker there and still get the
benefits, especially when you start to feel sick.
